Goddess Katyayani: The 6th Form of NavaDurga
Goddess Katyayani is the sixth form of NavaDurga and worshipped on the 6th day of Navratri. On the havoc created by Mahishasura, Goddess Parvati had taken the avatar of Goddess Katyayani. She is also referred to as the warrior Goddess. Some religious texts state that Goddess Pravati was born at the home of sage Katya. As the daughter of sage Katyayana, she is known as Katyayani. She rides a lion and carries a lotus stem and sword in her right hand. She is said to be gifted with the lion by Goddess Gauri.
Story
Sage Katyayana was one of the greatest sages. He did not have any children. Having a desire to get Mother Bhagwati as a daughter, the sage made harsh austerity of Maa Bhagwati. Pleased with the penance of Maharishi Katyayana, Goddess gave him a boon of a daughter. After a while, the tyranny of the demon Mahishasura increased seriously. Then, with the brightness of the Trinity, a brightly-colored and quadruped goddess was born to kill him.

Being the daughter of Katyayana Rishi, she is known as Goddess Katyayani. She has four arms and rides a lion. The Goddesses of the Brajamandal worshiped her for getting Krishna. Unmarried girls worship Maa Katyayani to remove the barriers in marriage.

Maa Katyayani Puja
Goddess Katyayani is worshipped on the sixth day of Navratri. Early in the morning, one should worship the goddess wearing yellow or red clothes. Offer yellow flowers and yellow naivedya to the goddess. Offering honey to them is considered auspicious. Chant the mantras of the goddess in front of the Kalash, which was established as the seat of Goddess Durga on the first day of Navratri. The puja is complete with aarti off the goddess. It is believed that offering fragrant flowers to Maa Katyayani will create the chances of early marriage. By her blessings, the marriage life will be blissful.
