Kalaratri: The 7th And Most Ferocious Form Of NavaDurga

Goddess Kalaratri is the seventh form of NavaDurga & worshipped on the 7th day of Navratri. She is the most ferocious avatar of Goddess Durga and is known for destroying ignorance and removing darkness from the universe.
Story
According to legend, Dasta Shumbha-Nishumbha and Raktabeej had made a stroke in all three states. Worried by this, all the goddesses went to Shivji. He asked the Maa Parvati to kill the demons and protect their devotees. Considering Shivji, Parvati Ji assumed the form of Durga and killed Shumbha-Nishumbha. Thereby she got the name Goddess Chamunda. But as soon as Durga killed the bloodbath, the blood released from her body produced millions of Raktabeej. Seeing this, Maa Durga took her most ferocious form – Goddess Kalaratri. She drank the blood of Demmon Raktabeej to prevent it from falling down, eventually killing him.

Goddess Kalaratri filled his blood in her face and slaughtered his blood base after cutting his throat. She became so fierce and destructive that she started killing everyone who came in front of her. All the gods prayed in front of Lord Shiva to stop her. So Shiva decided to come below her foot to stop her. When she was engaged in killing everyone, Lord Shiva appeared below her foot. By seeing her beloved husband below her foot, she bit her tongue. In the guilt, she forgot about the fight. Hence god shiva calmed her down.
